This week, Facebook has launched a new Preventive Health Tool. It is an optional process within its main app which based on users age and gender information and help them to undergo regular health check-up.
According to Facebook, they mentioned that in US many people are missing out on recommended preventive care. Moreover, preventive measures have the potential to detect disease early when it is most treatable and in some cases, it tends to be prevent it from developing.
In order to prevent these, the new option [Preventive Health Tool] is now available within Facebook extended apps. Furthermore, it will based on your personal information and recommend that you undertake check-ups relative to your age.
If you do choose to undergo a test, Facebook will be able to highlight where you can go to do so:
In order to ensure people can find an affordable options, the map will highlight Federally Qualified Health Centers even if they do not have insurance. It will then also send you a prompt within your Facebook notifications on the day of your appointment:
Facebook do mentioned that the initial focus of the Preventive Health app will be heart disease and cancer, along with flu as well. With the reminders of flu shots it tends to maximize the awareness. For example, once you have undertaken a test or have been given a flu shot, you can mark it as done within the app in order to ensure that you stay up to date on relevant measures.
This is a good initiative from Facebook as it helps raise awareness for health concerns and using its unmatched scaled to prompt increased users action as well. Let us discuss another effective action of Facebook. For instance, Facebook reported that its blood donations prompts has lead more than 35 million people signing up to become blood donors across the world.
But there is another data privacy concern for user. Do you really want Facebook or the app at the center of ongoing issues to have a record regarding your health check-ups and such? For one, the health check-up tool doesn’t store any information about your results, it merely prompts you with reminders for relevant check-ups, so it’s not a record of your health as such.
