The Journey of The Mobile Wireless Communication Technology, Starts from 0G to 5G.

One of the core technologies that helps the evolution of mankind and technology is telecommunication and networking.

Imagine if we don’t have these communication and transmission of data channels, how can humans enjoy advanced technology as it is today? 

Telecommunication

Telecommunication is a communication over a distance by various types of technologies through wire, radio, or other electromagnetic systems. 

The Advancing of Technologies

Consumers keep demand for bigger, faster, stronger everyday services because of the competitive economy, companies in the current industry have to adapt the fact in shortly. Hence, there comes the evolution from 0G to the on going 5G. 

(0G) Zero Generation Telecommunication

0G being the predecessors of the 1G of cellular telephones, and these systems are named 0G systems. 0G systems included Push to Talk (PTT), Mobile Telephone System (MTS), Improved Mobile Telephone Service (IMTS), and Advanced Mobile Telephone System (AMTS).

0G – life before the invention of the cell phone mobile telephony technology, radio telephones which had in cars is one of the examples. Still remember in the 1980’s, the car phone was more welcome than the regular mobile phone. 

(1G) One Generation Technology

By technology standards, 1G can be counted as ancient as it is the first generation of mobile network technology. Then, Mobile Wireless communication comes true by the introduction of 1G Technology.

Basically, 1G was a network with the capabilities to voice calling. Voice, data, images, signals or video information are conveyed by a type of transmission method which is named Analog transmission.

– Battery life, poor

– Phone size, large

– Have no security

– Reliability, poor

– Capacity, limited

(2G) Two Generation Technology

By 2G, digital signals are able to be utilized for the use of voice transmission. This technology’s main focus was on digital signals and also provided services to convey content and picture messages at a low speed (in kpbs). 

Unlike 1G, 2G is kind of improving version technology, analog is seldom used and we moved into the digital world. Smaller devices, connection that is more secure, quality call, and a higher capacity for connectivity are provided. 

The 3 Big Improving Features compared to 1G 

  • Fully digitized and encrypted data transmission for phone conversation.
  • SMS such as plain text, picture messages, MMS service added to phone calls.
  • Devices that enabled 2G are more efficient to receive and send signals as it was having higher penetration levels for wide radio waves spectrum. 

(3G) Three Generation Technology

Also branded as FOMA for testing purposes by NTT DoCoMo in Japan, in 1998. But, until 2001, it was not released for commercial use because of its unreliability. Same year later in October, it was commercially launched on W- CDMA standard which is based on GSM.

By 3G, there is more data, video calling and mobile internet available. Such a huge revolution of technological advancement for data transmission and network. Voice telephony and SMS services, data service are increased in use by its changed course in terms of wireless communication systems. 

Broad frequency bandwidth of 3G enhances the voice quality and connectivity. Through the enhancement of data transmission, network services are much better meanwhile more and more customers are attracted to use the internet. 

(4G) Fourth Generation Technology

4G fulfilled the gap which was missing for more secured data transmission. Literally all transmission is based on Protocol as all of the IP packet switch network domains are used for 4G compliance. Which at the same time data is given the highest priority.

  • Supports gaming services, mobile web access (3G), 3D TV, Video conferencing and other services that needed higher speeds.
  • 3G features removed with the implementation of 4G. For instance, spectrum radio technology.
  • HD quality video calls, clear voice telephony and better quality in teleconferencing.

There is a saying that 4G technologic is a MAGIC. Which are explained as below: 

M = Mobile multimedia

A = Any time any where

G = Global mobility support

I = Integrated wireless solution

C = Customised personal service

While 1G brought the 1st cell phones, 2G enabled us to text for phones, 3G brought us on- line and last but not least 4G delivered the fancy speeds. 5G, coming soon.

5G will be the next generation of mobile communications with a huge bandwidth for data transmission, extremely robust systems and ultra- low connectivity latency. It will be completely different from what it brings to mobile communication technology.
